Engtec were approached by TFE Hotels to review the energy consumption of the main central plant serving the entire Vibe Hotel and the retail precinct at the Darwin Waterfront Precinc
Re-enginEERING THE TOP END
The Solution
A review of the entire mechanical plant identified both fundamental and subtle design issues in the mechanical plant that could put the site at risk or failure and contributed to elevated levels of energy consumption.
Through detailed analysis of the site’s infrastructure and cooling demands, the mechanical plant was reconfigured, upgraded and optimized to incorporate high efficiency water cooled containerized chillers. The machines were specifically designed to operate within the harsh Darwin climate and boost the reliability and redundancy of the precinct.
The Outcome
The combined energy reduction of the hotel and precinct is now 46% equating to approximately $300,000 per annum on operating costs and 470tonnes of CO2 aversion.
The works also released spare electrical capacity for the site avoiding any potential power upgrades in the near and distant future.
